The following day everyone is welcome to come back to the Bastide Rose to pick up their car, have lunch and generally sit around chatting and enjoying the sun(hopefully!). There is a swimming pool but you'll have to bring your own towel if you'd like to use it.

See you soon,

Presence not Presents!

The fact that you are coming to our wedding would mean more to us than any gifts (plus our lovely home is too small to accommodate much more than just the two of us), so we would prefer if you didn't buy us anything. If you really do wish to give us something then a small donation to either of these charities, both of which mean a lot to us, would be really appreciated.

Where is the wedding?

The wedding is in the South of France, in an area called the Luberon.
Bonnieux:

This is a pretty part of Provence well known for vineyards, hillside villages with markets and generally well worth visiting in its own right. The Luberon extends roughly from Isle sur La Sorgue in the west to Apt in the east. The Wedding is in a village called Bonnieux in the middle of the Luberon, and the reception is in a small country house called La Bastide Rose, in Le Thor, a village just west of Isle sur La Sorgue and about 25minutes drive from Bonnieux.

In terms of where would be handy to stay –see the accommodation section below. In general, we (we’re thinking as one already!) liked Bonnieux village and Isle sur la Sorgue town. One is handy for the church, the other for the reception. Another option –for those who love a bit of history and only plan to stay a couple of days –is to stay in Avignon (20 minutes drive from Le Thor, 50 minutes from Bonnieux). To get a better idea of all these places, see the maps and tourist information websites by pressing on the links below or in the text (highlighted in pink).

How to get from Church to reception

Use this link for directions by putting "France" in as destination country, "84250" as postcode and "Le Thor" in as city.

Once in Le Thor to get to the Bastide Rose

Head west out of Le Thor on N100/Route D’Avignon
1 km out of town go beneath a flyover, which is just after a supermarket on your right, then take entrance to flyover on right.
At T junction turn Left (DON'T crossover the flyover bridge).
300 metres later turn left again onto Chemin des Croupières.
La Bastide Rose is at the bottom of the road on the left.

Getting there

The local airports are
Marseille:
Most useful airport: 45-60 minutes from Le Thor and Bonnieux, with regular flights from Dublin and London. The airport has a really good website too!
Avignon:
20 minutes from Le Thor but with less frequent flights than Marseille.
Nimes:
50 minutes from Luberon but flights only from England.
Montpellier:
A little further, but on a good motorway, about an hour from Avignon and maybe 80mins from Le Thor.
Carcasonne:
This is much further away, but an option if the others aren’t. It takes about 2 hours to Avignon by a good motorway.

The main useful flights for those coming just for the weekend at the moment are:
From Dublin:
Ryanair –fly to Marseille on Friday morning at 9:20am
Aer Lingus -fly to Marseille on Saturday morning 7am

From London:
Ryanair-fly to Marseille (from Stansted) on Friday at 4pm; fly to Montpellier on Friday and Saturday at 6am; fly from Luton to Nimes on Friday at 11:20.
Easyjet-fly to Marseille (from Gatwick) on Friday at 2pm and on Saturday at 9:25am

From Luxembourg:
Twin Jet from Metz to Marseille, 6:30 am and 5:40pm Monday to Friday
Ryanair –fly from Frankfurt Hahn to Marseille on Friday at midday; to Montpellier at 7pm on Thursday evening.
Theres also a TGV from Paris (Gare de Lyon) every hour or so to Avignon which takes 2 ½ hours.

Accommodation

Basically, if you’re mainly coming for the wedding, socialising and a party it makes sense to stay around Bonnieux, Isle-sur la Sorgue, Le Thor or Avignon. We’ll probably try and meet up with all the friends who are around for a drink the night before in either Bonnieux or Isle sur la Sorgue-probably the latter. Otherwise, the whole area is lovely and I’d stay wherever takes your fancy. The Bastide Rose is very small and so is full already with our families but there are lots of beautiful places to stay nearby.
If you click here (part of the “miniplan Luberon” website) you’ll get an idea of where everything is. The drive from Bonnieux over the hills to Lourmarin, on the south side of the Luberon is a twisty road –though very beautiful with nice walks in the valley- and takes about 25 minutes. Staying north of the hills probably makes more sense.
We’ve put in a few links to useful websites –local tourist office, and other places to find B and Bs. Just to mention a couple of places we liked in Bonnieux: the Trois Sources (a 20minute walk to the village, just below it), and the Clos de Buis(in the village, in lots of “charming places” type guidebooks, but was always booked out when we tried to get a room). As B and B's go they're expensive, but very pretty! Bear in mind when you book anywhere, that although some places have a village address, they may be quite far outside the village and you’d have to drive in for your dinner –it’s worth checking when you book.
As you can see, I love organising holidays –almost obsessively-, but I hope all this is useful for you and makes coming to our wedding a little easier!

Attractions in the area

We were going to tell you all about the area but you can find out yourselves through these websites –many of which you’ve probably already accessed to find somewhere to stay. You’ll find info on places to eat, what’s on, what days the various village markets are on etc etc. Paul and I enjoyed walks in the Luberon Mountains, visiting Baux de Provence in the Alpilles, wine tasting and wandering around the various villages
